Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani was among the 241 people who died in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad last week. His last rites will be performed today.

A day after DNA matched with the body recovered from the site of the Ahmedabad plane crash, the funeral of former Chief Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, will be held in Rajkot today with full state honours.

The confirmation of the DNA match was made in the report that came at 11.10 am yesterday, state home minister Harsh Sanghavi confirmed.

Vijay Rupani’s Last Rites Today | Top Points

1. His mortal remains will be handed over to his family members, who will reach the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital at 11 am.
2. The mortal remains will be handed over to the family at 11.30 am.
3. After all procedures at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, the body will be flown directly to Rajkot.
4. The former chief minister’s body is expected to arrive in Rajkot between 12.30 pm and 2 pm.
5. Before the last rites, his body will be kept for public viewing for an hour.
6. The final procession of Vijay Rupani will begin at 4 pm in the city.
7. Several government officials, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP’s Gujarat chief CR Patil, will attend the solemn event.
8. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other state ministers will also take part in the funeral procession.
9. A one-day state mourning has been declared in Gujarat.
10. 241 passengers had died in the Air India-171 plane crash on June 12 afternoon. There was a lone survivor in the incident, who was identified as a British national.
